About AvayeBoom Bird Conservation Society

AvayeBoom Bird Conservation Society is an Iranian non-governmental organization working to protect wild birds and their habitats. Founded in Isfahan in July 2015, the society brings together conservation practitioners, researchers and more than 310 volunteers.

Our work combines field conservation, scientific research, education and environmental policy. We collaborate with local communities, government agencies and other conservation organizations to understand threats, develop practical responses and monitor the results.

Our mission

To conserve birds and their habitats in Iran by connecting scientific knowledge, public participation and practical conservation action.

What we do

Research and monitoring

We conduct bird surveys and waterbird censuses, document species distributions, and publish research and biodiversity data. These activities help identify conservation priorities and inform decisions about species and habitats.

Field conservation

Our projects address threats such as bird collisions with power lines, conflict between beekeepers and bee-eaters, and pressures on wetland and coastal bird populations. We develop interventions around the conditions of each site and assess their results through field monitoring.

Community participation

We work with people whose lives and livelihoods are connected to wildlife. At Arjan International Wetland, residents helped select the ruddy shelduck as a flagship species. The project uses this shared connection with a familiar bird to strengthen participation in wetland conservation.

Education and birdwatching

Our educational programmes have reached more than 4,000 people, including rangers, nature guides, teachers, children and interested members of the public. We also develop birdwatching opportunities that help people experience and understand wildlife.

Policy and guidance

We contribute field experience and research to conservation policies, regulations and practical guidelines, working with the institutions responsible for their implementation.

Bird rescue and rehabilitation

AvayeBoom has cared for hundreds of injured wild birds. Our work includes rehabilitation, release and public guidance on responding appropriately when an injured bird is found.

Where we work

Established in Isfahan, AvayeBoom works across Iran. Our projects cover inland wetlands, Persian Gulf islands and coastal habitats, desert landscapes and northern Iran. Collaboration with local experts, volunteers and organizations is central to how we work.

How we work

We value scientific evidence, respect for human rights, accountability and knowledge sharing. We bring these principles into project design, collaboration and reporting, and use the lessons from our work to improve future conservation practice.
