Iran Bird Checklist: Complete List of Species with Status and Distribution
Iran is a country with remarkable bird diversity. This page presents the Iran Birds Checklist, compiled through the collaboration of AvayeBoom and the Department of Environment of Iran. The list includes the names, conservation statuses, and biological information of all species that have been recorded and confirmed in the country so far.
In this checklist, along with the Persian and scientific names of each species, information such as family, conservation status under international agreements (AEWA, CMS, CITES), occurrence patterns, migration status, and seasonal distribution is provided.
This checklist was developed through volunteer efforts from the beginning and continues to be updated as an Open Access reference. Contributions from experts and enthusiasts are highly valuable for completing and improving this resource. If you are interested in contributing, you may request access to the source by sending an email.
Scientific coordination of the checklist is led by Dr. Arash Habibi Azad. For questions or correspondence, you can reach us via his email at habibiazad[at]gmail.com.
The current version is 1.3, and with the support of the experts and volunteers, it will continue to be updated regularly.
Additional Notes:
1. The scientific names of Great Bittern, Levant Sparrowhawk, and Northern Goshawk follow the latest IOC taxonomic updates and have not yet been accepted by BirdLife.
2. The final species count is based only on species whose occurrence or distribution status is clearly defined.
3. Subspecies are not displayed in the table.
4. The primary reference for this checklist is BirdLife International.
5. The last column shows each species’ presence status in Iran.
